Question by Rachel: My car was stolen and damaged. My car insurance won’t cover the damage because the key was left in the car.?
What could I do? there’s around $ 5,000 in damages and my car insurance “TALRO” won’t cover it.
I didn’t technically say that it was left in the car, but on the police report it says left in the car. I didn’t know the officer wrote it in those exact words.

If you have coverage for stolen vehicles, insurance will cover your losses providing you do those things the normal person would do to help protect your car from being stolen. And there are degrees to that. Just being in your garage and the keys in your pocket would probably be enough that they would cover. On the street, keys in your pocket and doors locked would be enough.
In a bad neighborhood, doors unlocked and keys in the ignition–not a chance they would cover that.
But leaving the keys anywhere is grounds for them not to cover, and per your question it looks like they aren’t. What can you do? Nothing, except use it as a learning experience.
who told them about the key/should have told them that the key was an extra stolen from your key ring /house or when car got washed etc/gotta start thinking on your feet
it could even be considered fraud. they could be thinking, you left the key intentionally in order for it to be stolen.
insurance does not cover negligence.
No insurance will cover you when your car gets stolen and its your fault. There is nothing you can do but pay the damage yourself.
