Question by imapoptart: If I am looking to buy myself (an older teen) a used car, how do I find the safety ratings?
I am looking for my first car, and a way to persuade my parents. How can I prove to them its is a safe vehicle. Also, what is the oldest year car you would recommend?

    you can go to this website and get what you want to know
    and my self no older than a 2000 model any thing over 5 years old will probly have problems soon there after…. that has been my experience

    Find an insurer……Ask Him/Her Which 10 vehicles have the Lowest Insurance ratings for your Circumstances……………

    Personally, I’d stick with the year range of late 80′s to mid 90′s. Try to find a car thats been owned by the prophetic little old lady who only drove to church and back. Those generally make great cheap cars as older people tend to buy large (safe) cars. A large car would help you keep out of trouble as it wouldn’t attract a cop as a sportier car would, plus the large size is nice for hauling stuff to and from College (assuming you are in/going to college). Also, slightly older cars are much easier to find parts for in a junkyard.

    As for safety ratings, go to your local library and use Consumer Guides (or is it Reports….can’t remember the exact title) for that year of vehicle to check its safety ratings.
