How are low income people supposed to pay for “mandatory insurance” when the new health bill passes?

Question by ilovecats: How are low income people supposed to pay for “mandatory insurance” when the new health bill passes?
I’m self employed and make around $ 1000 a month on average. How the f**k are people in similar situations supposed to buy this new mandatory insurance? I couldn’t afford it unless it was subsidized 100% at the rates it’s going for, and I seriously doubt they’ll do that anyway. And I can’t afford to pay the fine associated for not having it either.

So will there be a hardship exemption for low income people like me, or will I just go to jail for being too poor to buy insurance?

Frankly, the politicians don’t care – it’s not their problem.

But, you have an INCOME problem. You cannot live off of $ 12,000 a year. It’s NOT a sustainable income. Heck, you’d make more at McDonalds full time. You’re not even making minimum wage, with your “self employment”. Time to pick up a second job, and work your “self employment” job in your spare time.

People making less than 150% of the federal poverty level, as you do, will automatically be put on welfare insurance with the new bill as it is currently written. This means you can only see a doctor that accepts Medicaid, and not many do currently and even fewer will in the future.

low income people will be 100% subsidized by ME. It sucks that people expect ME to pay for their families insurance. They should take care of their own family and not expect ME to pay for their kids.

Slow down and stop listening to the media. Nothing has been enacted yet – the final legislation is months away and any changes will take years to be phased in.
