Question by playgroundfunn: How do utility bills affect your credit and when?
My boyfriend and I are usually late with our gas bill. This company lists a “due date” and then a “delinquent date.” So for example, it’ll say “Due By 12/27, Delinquent After 1/06.” If we pay before the delinquent date, does it affect credit?

Rent and utilities, like other regular bills, are not considered extensions of credit and are not reported to the credit bureaus unless you default and are turned to collections. The collection agency will report the defaulted debt to the credit bureaus.
You are creating a bad track record with the utility company. They may require you to put up additional deposits if you continue to be late on a regular basis. You also are wasting money paying those late fees.
You can get a free credit report yearly. Get one and see if they’re on it. I’d guess, no, since you made payments by the delinquency date.
